Sheriff Hutton Steeplechases first took place in April 1863, on land known as ‘The Carrs’. Racing took place for the next eight years until April 1870. There were three annual races, The Prince of Wales Stakes, the Princess Alexandra Stakes and the Ladies Purse. In 1921 the Middleton Hunt held their Point to Point at Cape Farm.

Admission is just £10 per person
We are continually grateful to Michael Easterby for each year allowing us to use his land. With his wealth of Racing and Farming experience he has created an exceptional site for us, with safe and robust access and exits for both the cars and the horse boxes. The site itself is superb with a hillside car park allowing full view of the course. The land then inclines for all the marquees to be arranged in an arc with a perfect view of the entire course to the front of the tents. A great family day is available for all those who love a day out in the countryside.

A portion of all the proceeds goes to the Rapid Response Yorkshire Air Ambulance saving the lives of people involved in racing, hunting, farming and country life.
